The Gikirima Wetmill is one of five wetmills of the “Kibugu Cooperative Society” in Embu in central Kenya.
The cooperative supports the farmers very much. Farmers have an average of 2 hectares and around 300 coffee plants. Most farmers also grow other plants such as passion fruit, corn, beans and in some cases tea.
The coffees are traditionally fermented dry before being washed and sorted and dried on loft beds. The farmers mainly grow SL28 and SL34 but like almost all Kenyan cooperative coffees there can be a mix of everything. Other common varieties are K7, Ruiru 11 and now Batian.
For those who want a complex and great tasting classic Kenyan cup profile this is the coffee for you!
