Floral Elegance

A very special cup with clearly defined flavours and a unique, elegant character. We cupped aromatic jasmine blossoms, a fine citrus note reminiscent of kumquats, honeydew melon and ripe, sweet peaches.

About this coffee

The Lot Reina 41s comes from the Jaramillo mountain near Boquete. The air here is cool and the conditions are ideal for growing Geisha plants. Geisha grown at these altitudes expresses particularly bright, floral flavours. Jaramillo, with its cooler temperatures and the massive, shady trees that have stood here for ages, is the ideal place to grow this variety. To this day, many of Finca Esmeralda's best and award-winning micro-lots come from small plots on the slopes of Jaramillo.

ORIGIN INFO

The Producer

In 2004, the Peterson family of Hacienda La Esmeralda achieved a historic milestone by winning the prestigious Best of Panama (BOP) competition with an exceptional Geisha coffee, previously unknown in the region. In the same remarkable year, they not only secured victory, but also broke records by achieving the highest price ever for a coffee at this auction. The Geisha plant, which originated in Ethiopia, quickly gained worldwide recognition and established itself as one of the world's most exquisite and prized varieties of coffee.

At Hacienda La Esmeralda, meticulous care is taken in the harvesting process, with only the ripest and reddest cherries being hand-picked. Given the natural variation in ripening times, the harvest is spread over a long period of time, with each coffee bush being harvested up to ten times. This dedication to selecting only the finest cherries ensures the creation of an elegant and complex cup, characterised by distinct notes of jasmine, peach, kumquat and melon.

The commitment to excellence extends beyond the fields to the manufacturing process of Reina 41, where only recycled water from the neighbouring highlands is used. What makes this coffee even more remarkable is its contribution to social programmes, including support for a school for the children of migrant pickers and a generous bonus of at least 30% for all employees. With every sip of Reina 41, you are not only enjoying a delicious cup of coffee, but also contributing to the well-being of the community.
